These Beef & Sausage Slider Burgers are perfect for a quick lunch, dinner, game day, or parties. The best thing about this recipe is it’s quick, easy to make, and you can make it indoors on your George Foreman electric grill! I don’t think there is anything better than a homemade burger! Oh, and serve them up with Donkey Sauce, the perfect sauce for a slider burger! Yummo!!

What about pairing these sliders with our Beer Battered Onion Rings with Southern BBQ Sauce for dunking. Now that is a pairing made in heaven!

When I make a homemade burger I like it nice and juicy. Do you know what makes a burger juicy? It’s fat, and the pork sausage adds just the right amount of fat to this burger to make it perfect!

Beef sausage slider on a bun with lettuce, onion, pickle, cheese, tomato and donkey sauce cut in half on a white plate.

It’s easy to cook these mini slider burgers, don’t be fooled by the small size; they have big flavor! When you pair the burger with some Hawaiian sweet dinner rolls, your cheeseburger sliders will wow your guests!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. mild Italian sausage, casing removed (you could use spicy sausage if you prefer)
  • Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
  • 5 slices of Monterey jack cheese, cut in half
  • 1 slider buns (I used sweet Hawaiian buns)
  • Sliced pickles
  • Thinly sliced white onion
  • Lettuce
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Cooked bacon
  • Donkey sauce *

What you need for your slider cheeseburgers

Start by preheating your indoor grill. In a medium bowl, mix together the ground beef and the Italian sausage until they are just combined. Make sure you don’t overwork the meat.

Form the meat into 10 patties that are roughly 2 1/2 inches in diameter and about 1/2 an inch in thickness. Season both sides of each patty with salt and pepper.

The patties can be made in advance, covered with plastic wrap, and refrigerated until ready to be cooked.

Once your indoor grilled is preheated, working in batches, place the patties on the grill and close the lid. One of the great things about an indoor grill like this is that your sliders cook from both the top and the bottom. So they cook twice as fast as on an outdoor grill or large skillet.

Depending upon how thick you made your slider patties, it will take approximately 8-10 minutes for your sliders to cook. Remember, because you have added pork to the patties, you will need to make sure they are fully cooked.

Using a thermometer like the Thermoworks Thermapen instant-read thermometer makes sure that your slider patties reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees F.

Next, you are going to want to get that wonderful Monterey jack cheese melted on your sliders. Place a slice of cheese on each of the slider patties and lower the lid, but don’t close it all the way.

Wait a few minutes with the lid over the top until the cheese is melted. The heat of the top grill will melt the cheese. You can hold the cooked slider patties in a warming draw or a low oven until the rest of the slider patties are cooked. Now it’s time to build your slider burger!

What’s the difference between a slider and a burger?

Slider patty on the bottom bun with donkey sauce on top; the top bun is dressed with bacon, lettuce, pickle, and onion.

The only difference between my slider and my burger is the size. Think of a slider as a “mini-me” of the original burger. Like in the Austin Powers movies!

Slider bottom bun with bacon, lettuce, pickles, tomato and onion then the slider patty and donkey sauce drizzles over top.

You can toast your slider bun if you like; I prefer mine not toasted. Now start to place your additions onto the bottom buns (or one side). Pile high the bacon, lettuce, pickle, tomato, onion, and then top with the burger. Slather on the donkey sauce, and you have the best slider going! But you can build it any way YOU like!

If you want, you can use the old burger stand-bys like ketchup, mustard, and relish, but I love the donkey sauce. It has a lovely tangy taste. The sweet flavor of the roasted garlic pairs really well with the beef and sausage meat in the slider patty.

Like your favorite regular-sized burger, you can top your slider any way you like. Because the actual size of the slider is pretty small, it’s nice to have an abundance of toppings. It adds not only big flavor but volume to your sliders. Remember, we eat first with our eyes, right!

Game Day…or Any day

Sliders are the perfect snack to serve for Game Day. You can put them together yourself and serve them on a platter. Or, if you prefer, you can have everyone build their own slider cheeseburger.

Sliders are nearly the perfect party snack for any get-together. They go perfectly with fries or potato chips, or my personal favorite slider side, onion rings! If you want to serve up some healthy finger food, you can always add a fresh veggie platter with the donkey sauce for dipping!

Ingredients

Sliders

  • 1 ¼ lbs Lean ground beef
  • ½ lb mild Italian sausage casing removed. (you could use hot Italian sausage if you prefer)
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • 5 slices of Monterey Jack cheese cut in half
  • 10 Slider buns

Topping

  • Donkey sauce *
  • Sliced pickles
  • Thinly sliced white onion
  • Lettuce
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Cooked Bacon slices

Instructions

  • Preheat your indoor grill. I use my George Foreman grill; it works perfectly.
  • In a medium bowl, mix the ground beef and the sausage until they are just combined. Do not over-mix.
  • Form into 10 patties approximately 2 ½ inches in diameter and about ½ inch thick.
  • Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Working in batches, cook the patties on the indoor grill. Close the lid and grill for 8-10 minutes.
  • You will want an internal temperature of 160 degrees F. Once that is reached, lift the lid and place a ½ slice of Monterey Jack cheese on each patty.
  • Lower the lid but don’t close it. The heat from the top grill will melt the cheese slightly. You can cover with tin foil if you like to get the cheese melting faster.
  • Hold the cooked patties in a warming drawer or low oven.
  • Repeat with remaining patties.
  • You can toast the slider buns if desired.
  • Serve on slider buns topped with our Donkey Sauce*, bacon, sliced pickles, thinly sliced onion, lettuce, and tomatoes.
