Grilled Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

Grilled Bacon Wrapped Shrimp is an easy way to serve up something delicious. The best part is it looks really fancy but you don’t have to tell them how easy it really is! The recipe is simple, just 3 ingredients.

You can make them in advance and keep them in the refrigerator until you are ready to put them on the grill. What could be easier?

These bacon wrapped shrimp make a great appetizer. One or two make a perfect bite with a summer cocktail! If you want you can serve up a few more with a salad or some grilled veggies and voila, a complete dinner!

Easy Prep

These are so simple to prepare. Thaw your shrimp and season them. Wrap one strip of bacon around each shrimp. I start wrapping at the tail and move toward the body. Secure with a toothpick and you are ready to go to the grill.

I used jumbo shrimp which were 8 to 12 count. This means that there are 8-12 shrimp in a pound. I found that these large shrimp were the perfect size for one of the slices of bacon.

Make sure that you do not buy pre-cooked shrimp! They for sure need to be raw shrimp.  Also, if can get them already peeled and deveined that is one less thing you will have to do.

You can have these seasoned, wrapped in bacon and in the fridge waiting to go when company arrives. A quick run over the BBQ and you have a scrumptious appetizer in no time.

Because the bacon lets off some wonderful fats and juices this lets your shrimp stay tender and moist while they cook a bit longer for the bacon to crisp.

Options

There are so many things I could have added to this recipe. I could have included cheese or jalapenos. I could have stuffed the shrimp with sausage, or serve them with a dipping sauce.

What I did do was use Old Bay Seasoning for a wonderful layer of flavor under the bacon. Want them hot and spicy? Then add in a spicier seasoning like a Cajun spice.

Come up with your own spice blend to add in and call them your own!! Just be carefully about a salty blend as you already have the salt from the bacon.

Rather than preparing them individually I could have put them on a skewer. Or included fruits like pineapple or veggies like onions with the shrimp.

I didn’t do that because I think that the great flavor of the bacon and the shrimp together is just fantastic. I did season my shrimp before I wrapped them, but that was all it needed.

On to the Grill

As always, you need to make sure you preheat your grill. It should be medium hot. Place your shrimp on the grill and cook until the bacon becomes slightly crispy. Turning the shrimp a quarter turn and then again lets the bacon crisp up. Repeat until all sides are done.

Remove your shrimp from the grill and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
