You can use any kind of bread you like for this recipe, but I prefer using a small French loaf. I think the shape of the slices is perfect for garlic bread. If you want smaller slices for an appetizer or charcuterie tray, you could use a baguette.

What do you need to make grilled garlic bread?
It only takes a handful of ingredients to make your own grilled garlic bread at home. Save some money, take a few minutes, and make your garlic bread. Trust me, it’s worth the effort! Just like you get in the restaurant.
Ingredients
- French loaf – A small French loaf or baguette works great.
- Olive oil – Use good quality olive oil, as you will taste the difference.
- Garlic clove – You need a clove or 2 of garlic; you can’t use pre-minced garlic from a jar.
- Sea salt – Brings out the other flavor of the garlic and olive oil.
How to make grilled garlic bread
Preheat your grill to 350 degrees F. Cut the bread into slices approximately 3/4 of an inch thick and lay them out on a cutting board or baking sheet.
Brush one side of the slices with olive oil and place the slices oil-side down on the preheated grill. Then, brush the top side of each slice with the olive oil.
Allow the bread slices to toast on the first side. You want light grill marks on the bread. Turn the slices over and allow the other side to toast. Be careful not to overcook the bread, as it will become too hard and crunchy. You want it soft in the middle and crunchy on the outside.
Once the slices are nicely toasted, remove them from the grill. Cut a garlic clove in half lengthwise and gently rub the cut garlic on the top of each slice of toasted bread.
Be careful not to rub too much garlic on each slice. The garlic is raw and can be quite strong-tasting if you rub too much on the toasted slices.
Next, I like to sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over each piece of garlic bread. I find it adds to the flavor of the bread and helps bring out the flavor of the olive oil and garlic.
Serve immediately with your favorite entree or as a side for any appetizer platter!
