You only need a few ingredients to prepare this amazingly yummy dessert. I think that everyone knows the recipe and has made these squares at some time in their life. The twist I have added to the end is what makes this an extra special dessert treat!

  • Butter – You can use salted butter in this recipe; it helps to bring out all the flavors.
  • Marshmallows – You can use regular or mini marshmallows in this recipe.
  • Rice Krispies cereal – The cereal is what makes this treat.
  • Chocolate sauce – This is optional but adds some extra flavor for sure.

Greasing a baking pan with butter.
Marshmallows and butter in a glass bowl ready to go in the microwave to be melted.
Melted marshmallows and butter stirred with a wooden spoon.

Grease an 11 x 8 1/2 x 2-inch pan with butter, or generously spray with cooking spray and set aside.

Heat the butter and marshmallows on high in a large microwave-safe bowl for 2 minutes. Stir and return to the microwave. Continue heating in 30-second increments, stirring each time until the marshmallows are completely melted.

Preheat your grill to medium heat. I like to place 2 Krispie rice squares on each skewer. Once the grill is hot, place the skewers directly on the grill grates.

Allow the squares to brown, turning so that all sides get nicely toasted. Watch them closely so that they don’t start to burn.

Once you have them nicely toasted, remove them from the grill. Serve them warm. You can serve them as is or add a little chocolate sauce if you prefer.

Enjoy!
