Hawaiian Grilled Turkey Burger Ingredients
Turkey Burger
- Ground turkey – You can grind it yourself, but picking it up at your butcher is much easier.
- Bread crumbs – Use plain bread crumbs in this recipe.
- Red bell pepper, finely minced – Adds a pop of color and sweet pepper taste to the turkey burger.
- Green onions, thinly sliced – The green onions are the perfect mild addition to the turkey.
- Pineapple juice – Adds a sweet hint of the tropics to this recipe.
- Soy sauce – I use low-sodium soy sauce, all the flavor with less sodium.
- Ginger paste – You can also substitute jarred ginger or freshly grated ginger.
- Fresh ground black pepper – A must for seasoning all types of meats.
- Teriyaki sauce – You can use store-bought if you like, or you can make your own Homemade Teriyaki Sauce.
For Serving
- Sliced pineapple rings – For easy preparation, you can use canned pineapple rings or cut them from a fresh pineapple.
- Buns – I like to use a nice Hawaiian or brioche burger bun for this recipe.
- Mayonnaise – Adds a touch of creaminess to the turkey burger.
How to make the Hawaiian grilled turkey burger
Making these Hawaiian Turkey Burgers starts out just like you are making any other burger.

Preheat your grill to medium heat, about 375 degrees F.
In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, bread crumbs, red bell pepper, green onions, pineapple juice, soy sauce, ginger paste, and fresh ground pepper. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix all the ingredients together.
Divide the meat into 4 equal-sized pieces and form each into a patty. Make the patties slightly larger than your buns, as they will shrink slightly during cooking.
Place the patties on the grill and cook for 5 – 7 minutes before turning. You can tell it’s time to turn the patties when the meat comes away from the grill without sticking or tearing.

Flip the patties over and baste the cooked side generously with teriyaki sauce. Continue grilling the turkey patties for another 5-7 minutes.
While the patties are cooking on the second side, place the pineapple rings on the grill and grill on each side for 1 – 2 minutes. You are looking for nice grill marks on both sides of the pineapple rings.
Make sure you check the temperature of your turkey burgers using an instant-read thermometer. As with any poultry meat, you want to make sure that the meat is cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
Just before removing the burgers from the grill, I like to toast my burger buns on the grill. It doesn’t take long, 30 seconds to a minute, and they are usually warmed and ready.
Serving the Grilled Hawaiian Turkey Burgers

Spread the mayo on both sides of the buns, if desired. Place a patty on each of the buns and then drizzle with a generous dollop of teriyaki sauce. Place the grilled pineapple ring on top of the turkey patty and top with the bun crown.
