WHAT DO YOU NEED TO MAKE Honey Mustard Salmon Kabobs?
There are two primary components of these Honey Mustard Salmon Kabobs. First is the salmon and combinations of veggies that you are going to put on the skewer. The second is the marinade that provides the amazing honey mustard flare to the salmon skewers!
INGREDIENTS
- Salmon filets
- Green bell pepper
- Red bell pepper
- Yellow bell pepper
- Red onion
- Sea salt
- Fresh ground black pepper
- Garlic clove, minced
- Olive oil
- Honey
- Dijon mustard
HOW TO MAKE Honey Mustard salmon kabobs
Start by making the marinade. In a small bowl, whisk together the sea salt, fresh ground black pepper, minced garlic clove, olive oil, honey, and Dijon mustard and set aside.
Dice the salmon filets into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large bowl. Next, cut the green, red, and yellow peppers into 1-inch cubes. Place them in the bowl with the cubed salmon. Chop the red onion into pieces about the same size as the pieces of bell peppers. Place the diced onion into the bowl with the salmon and the peppers.
Pour the marinade over the salmon, diced peppers, and red onion. Gently stir so that all the salmon and the vegetables are coated with the marinade. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Remove the marinating salmon and vegetables from the refrigerator and start to build your skewers. Begin to skewer the vegetables and the salmon onto the skewers. I like to mix the order of the veggies and the salmon on the skewers. That way, they are colorful, and each one is different.
You can use the marinade to brush the skewers before and during the grilling process for a little extra flavor kick!
Grilling your Honey Mustard salmon kabobs
Preheat your grill (or grill pan, if using) to high heat. Once you have your grill preheated, place the skewers onto the grill. Cook the skewers for about 1 minute per side. You need to be careful as the salmon will overcook very quickly. Over high heat, 4-5 minutes is all you need for the salmon to be done!
Remove the salmon skewers from the grill to a platter or serving dish. Allow the salmon to rest for a minute to 2 before serving. A word of warning; be careful; the metal skewers retain the heat and will burn you if you pick them up. Make sure that you use tongs when transferring the skewers onto everyone’s plates.

What is better, metal or wooden skewers
I like to use metal skewers when I’m grilling for a couple of reasons. Firstly they are reusable, so I know I always have some skewers ready to go onto the grill. Secondly, I don’t have to worry about them burning or getting singed when they are cooking.
In addition to these benefits, the metal skewers heat up and help cook the food from the inside also. I love that; things cook a little quicker and have a great texture.
If you are using wooden skewers, you need to make sure you soak them in water for at least 60 minutes before use. The longer you soak them, the better; it will help to keep the wooden skewers from burning. Although, I find they usually burn a little anyway.
Can I cook these Honey Mustard Salmon skewers in the oven?
The short answer is yes, of course you can! They would cook best if you broil them in your kitchen oven. I would cover a broiler pan with aluminum foil and spray it with a little cooking spray first. You don’t want them to stick to the foil on the broiler pan.
If you are cooking them in the oven, just like when you are cooking them on the BBQ, you need to watch them closely. Once the broiler is heated up, they will cook quickly. They can go from undercooked to overcooked in a matter of a minute.
