I used to make these tasty little grilled medallions all the time. One day my wife asked me why I don’t ever make those grilled sweet potatoes anymore. So I decided to make them again and let you in on this great recipe.

Slicing the sweet potatoes into medallions makes all the difference with this recipe. They cook quickly, everyone can have a few slices, and they have more surface area for the buttery sweet glaze!

What Do you Need to make Grilled Sweet Potatoes?

Ingredients need to to make grilled sweet potatoes laid out on a white countertop.

INGREDIENTS

  • Sweet Potato
  • Butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Cinnamon

Yes, that is all you need to create these fantastic little sweet potato bites!

HOW TO MAKE Grilled Sweet Potatoes

Start by preheating your grill to 350 degrees F. Wash the outside of the sweet potato and cut the ends off and discard. No need for peeling them. Slice the sweet potato into medallions approximately 3/8 of an inch thick.

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Microwave in 15-20 second increments until the butter is melted. Stir between each heating, making sure that the brown sugar and cinnamon are well mixed.

Place the sweet potato medallions on the preheated grill and brush the tops with the butter mixture. Turn the medallions over and brush the other side.

Cook for 4-6 minutes, then turn the sweet potatoes over and cook the other side. You want nice dark grill marks on both sides of the sweet potato. You also want the sweet potato to be nice and tender.

Brush any remaining butter mixture on the sweet potatoes before you remove them from the grill.

Serving your Grilled Sweet Potatoes

These sweet potatoes are best served warm right off the grill. The great thing about this recipe is that it is very quick to prepare. From start to finish, it takes 15 minutes or less.

If you are serving these as a side with a turkey, roast, or a whole chicken, you can grill these up when your protein is resting. This is a great healthy side dish. And I don’t think there is anything quite like grilled vegetables.

These sweet potatoes are wonderful and flavourful. The butter-brown sugar glaze is perfect. The brown sugar gets slightly carmelized when grilling. And the butter and cinnamon add richness to the sweet potatoes, which make them simply amazing!

When you grill the sweet potatoes, they become nice and tender. You can actually cut the medallions with a fork; no knife is needed! Plus, the skins get a little crispy, too, so yummy!!

Look at how tender and juicy that sweet potato is! Can’t you just smell the hint of butter and cinnamon? Don’t you just want to take a bite right now?

Health benefits of sweet potatoes

Make sure you don’t peel your sweet potatoes before grilling them. Just give them a quick wash. The skins of the sweet potato contain many nutrients.

Sweet potatoes are rich in antioxidants and high in beta-carotene, which is great for a healthy immune system and supports your vision too!

So make a healthy and tasty choice today. Time to grill some of these amazingly easy and healthy veggies.
